ACHP

The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation

Established by the 1966 National Historic Preservation Act, the ACHP is an independent federal agency that occupies a unique position in the national preservation program. With its statutory role to advise the President and Congress on historic preservation matters, it serves to shape and steward national historic preservation policies, doctrines, and practices.

In recent years, that has come to include expanding the program’s reach and recognition of a fully-inclusive American history and cultural legacy. To be successful in this regard, the ACHP and the ACHP Foundation are dedicated to cultivating and supporting a new, younger, and more diverse cadre of preservation leaders to carry out this work.
